The Conservative Party is committed to strengthen our defence and back the men and women who volunteer to defend our country.
That's why a future Conservative Government will deliver Tax-Free Reserve Service.
Our ambition is clear: to grow Britain's Armed Forces Reserves to 50,000 personnel, strengthening our nation's security while recognising the enormous contribution made by our reservists.
Today's reservists already give up their evenings, weekends and annual leave to serve. Many balance demanding civilian careers with military service, yet the income they earn from the Reserves is often taxed at their highest marginal rate.
That is not right.
That's why we will make the first 30 days of Reserve service each financial year completely tax free.
This policy is about more than rewarding those who already serve. It's about encouraging more people to join, helping existing reservists complete their training commitments, improving retention, and ensuring our Armed Forces have the strength and readiness they need in an increasingly dangerous world.
The impact could be significant.
A nurse serving as a Sergeant in the Army Reserve could save around £640 a year. A software engineer serving as a Major could save almost £2,000 a year.
