Conservatives Announce ECHR Exit Policy

Kemi Badenoch has announced that the next Conservative Government will leave the European Convention on Human Rights.

This follows a review she commissioned into the use of legal challenges to block government's doing what they were elected to do.

The review, led by Shadow Attorney General Lord Wolfson KC, looked at whether Britain could lawfully implement key Conservative policies while still bound by the ECHR.

Lord Wolfson advised that the ECHR creates major barriers, and that every other alternative like negotiation or repealing the Human Rights Act would not work.

Based on this advice, Kemi has made leaving the ECHR official Conservative policy, with full Shadow Cabinet backing.

This decision will allow a future Conservative Government to secure our borders, end spurious legal action against veterans, put British citizens first for housing and services, make sentencing tougher, and stop activist challenges on planning and energy.
