Conservative unveil plan to take back control of our prisons

Last summer we saw Labour release thousands of violent criminals out into the streets, to try and ease the stress on our prison system.

But since then, things have only gotten worse.

Our prison system continues to be on the brink of collapse. Not only that, but some of those who were released early... ended up right back in prison. Once again showing that Labour isn’t equipped to face the problems we are facing.

That’s why the Conservative asked former prison governor Ian Acheson to lead a rapid review and are now calling on Labour to adopt his recommendations immediately, including arming specialist officers with tasers, stun grenades, and, in some cases, lethal weapons in maximum security prisons as a last resort for tackling violent prisoners.

Alongside handing highly trained teams tasers, stun grenades and baton rounds, the Conservatives will also:

  • Remove all radical Islamist Imams working in prisons and retroactively apply counter-terror security clearance to all pastoral officers.
  • Immediately roll out high-collar stab vests to frontline officers.
  • Mandate quarterly release of data on religious conversions in prison and faith-related incidents.
  • Pass legislation to overturn the De Silva ruling to strip back judicial interference in operational decisions by Governors to isolate extremists.

While Labour ignores this problem, the threat to prison staff and the public is growing.

Only the Conservatives have a plan to take back control and restore order by giving officers the powers and protection they need.
