Nominations for leadership candidates will close on Monday 29th July. In a series of ballots, Conservative Members of Parliament will choose a shortlist of four candidates who will make their case to Party members at Conservative Party Conference, from Sunday 29th September to Wednesday 2nd October.
Conservative Members of Parliament will then shortlist the final two candidates who will go to a ballot of qualifying Party members.
The Party member ballot will close at 5pm on Thursday 31st October. Ballots received after that time will not be counted. The winner will be announced on Saturday 2nd November. That winner will become Leader of the Conservative Party.
Party members who have been members for at least 90 days immediately prior to the close of the ballot and were active members at the time on the candidate nominations opening, shall be entitled to vote. This means only current members who joined before 7pm on 24th July 2024 will receive a vote.
Qualifying members will be sent a ballot pack by post to their registered membership address. The pack will contain details of how to vote online and two unique security codes that must be entered in order to do so. The ballot pack will also contain a paper ballot that can be returned in the post at the member’s personal expense. We recommend online voting where possible. These packs will only be sent after the final two candidates have been shortlisted.
It is your choice which method of voting you choose. You can only vote once and should a duplicate vote be received by our ballot company, only the first received vote will count.
Qualifying members with a non-UK membership address will NOT receive a postal ballot pack. They will receive an email containing the two unique security codes allowing them to vote online. Timings of this email will be confirmed in due course.
All votes must be received by 5pm on Thursday 31st October. For your vote to count you must be an active member of the party immediately prior to the ballot closing. Please allow sufficient time in case of unexpected postal delays. Online voting is available until close of ballot.
The shortlisted four candidates will make their pitch to members on the main stage at Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, taking place between Sunday 29th September and Wednesday 2nd October. Members wishing to attend these hustings in person will require full Conference accreditation and pay the prevailing fee for that at conservatives.com/conference. These sessions will also be made available online and via the normal television broadcasters who cover Conference.
The final two leadership candidates will then take part in a final hustings at a UK location during October, details of which will be communicated to members in due course. This session will also be made available for all members to access virtually.
Detailed timings for ballot pack deliveries will be confirmed in due course, but qualifying members can expect to receive a ballot in the post around the third week of October. We will email qualifying members, who have a useable email address linked to their membership, when their ballots have been dispatched.
Undelivered ballots will be re-issued on a daily basis up to the day of the ballot closing. Further information will be made available when ballot papers are issued. Should you request a re-issued ballot, your original ballot paper will be voided.
If you will not be at your registered membership address to access your ballot pack before the ballot closes, you may apply for an email to be sent containing your two secure codes, allowing you to vote online. More information will be made available in due course via this website on how to access this facility.
We cannot post ballot packs to temporary addresses.
