Dear Friend,
The story of the last twelve years is a story of the incredible things we can achieve when we work together.
In 2010, after a financial crisis had undermined the nation’s finances, the generosity of people like you helped take us into government for the first time in over a decade.
In 2015, after we put the country’s finances back on track, you helped us win a Conservative majority for the first time in twenty-three years.
And in 2019, after a stalemate in Parliament was threatening to undo the referendum, you helped us defeat Jeremy Corbyn, break the deadlock and get Brexit done.
These were historic moments for our Party and our country. You shaped Britain’s future, changing it permanently and for the better.
But over the coming months, we face a challenge as great as any we’ve ever faced. We’re in the eye of a perfect storm: surrounded by an opposition party with their sights on Downing Street, a profound economic crisis we need to deal with now and a general election on the horizon.
On the steps of Downing Street, I laid out the scope of our challenge.
Our economy is being hit by global pressures. The aftermath of Covid still lingers. Putin’s war in Ukraine has destabilised energy markets and supply chains.
There are no quick fixes or simple solutions. But it is only the Conservative Party that the British people can trust to rise to the challenge – as we have done before.
We have a Chancellor who has earned the confidence of global markets. We have a Defence Secretary respected around the world for his efforts to defeat Putin’s forces in Ukraine. We have a Levelling Up Secretary who delivered the first real change to our education system in decades, introducing free schools that levelled up opportunities for children from the most deprived backgrounds. And we have an entire Cabinet that is determined to deliver for the British people and level up our country.
It’s a serious team for serious times. And all of us are counting on your support.
Not every measure we take will be popular. But I can promise you that they will all be made with one goal in mind: to build a country that our children and grandchildren will be proud of.
In the short term, that means supporting people through the winter with our Energy Price Guarantee, keeping bills as low as possible and giving families certainty next year by extending our price cap on energy, so that a typical household will pay £3,000 from April 2023 until April 2024.
It means busting the Covid backlog in healthcare with the extra £45.6 billion in funding for health and social care, delivering around nine million more checks, scans and over the next three years, and helping to reduce hospital and ambulance waiting times.
But we’re also focused on the long-term goal of levelling up and building a better country for the next generation.
It also means over £4 billion in additional funding for schools over the next two years, fulfilling our pledge to restore per pupil funding to record levels and more than Labour has pledged to give schools.
That’s why we’re making our streets safer for every resident in every community. So far we’ve recruited over 15,300 new police officers – well on our way to the 20,000 promised in our manifesto.
It’s why we we’re taking back control of our borders and have a Home Secretary determined to fix the problem of illegal migration. We’ve introduced an Australian-style points-based immigration system, so we only take the people our economy needs. And we’re reforming our asylum system to tackle dangerous small boat crossings.
It’s why we’re launching new investment programmes for jobs and skills across the UK. Building on our multi-million-pound Plan For Jobs – to get more people into work and keep unemployment at its lowest level for almost 50 years.
Safer streets. Better healthcare. A growing economy. We’re delivering the promise of 2019. But that doesn’t mean we’ve defeated the opposition.
While we’re doing what it takes to lead our country into the future, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party seem intent on dragging us back into the past.
I love this Party and the values we stand for. I’m proud to be a Conservative and proud of the members, activists and donors who have devoted so much to our success.
That’s why I don’t want to see twelve years of government undone by an opposition Party that fundamentally hasn’t changed.
Your support is key to protecting our achievements. From winning elections to getting our message out, every single thing we do is funded by supporters like you.
And with a general election in the next two years, your support has never been more vital.
Work is already underway – we’re hiring new campaign managers in target seats. We’re reaching new voters on social media. We’ve investing in new technology so we can recruit more members and activists. We’re doubling down on the successful data operation that helped us identify target voters at the last election.
And it’s all being carried out as part of our 80|20 Campaign – protecting the 80 seats we need to hold and targeting the 20 seats we need to win.
All of this is being led by our fantastic new Party Chairman, Nadhim Zahawi, who has the background in campaigning, business and polling that we need to win.
Yours sincerely,
Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party
PS: This is a challenging time for our country and our Party – and we’ve got less than two years to turn it around. So, let’s write the next chapter together. Please, donate to the Conservatives today and together we’ll deliver for Britain.
