Leadership Election FAQs

As a Party member, you will help to choose our next leader. It will shape the future of our Party – and our country.

Below is a selection of frequently asked questions about the process.

The Party member ballot will close at 5pm on Friday 2nd September. Ballots received after that time will not be counted. The winner will be announced on Monday 5th September. That winner will become Leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister.

Party members who have been members for at least three months immediately prior to the close of the ballot shall be entitled to vote. This means only current members who joined on or before 3rd June 2022 will receive a ballot.

Qualifying members will be sent a ballot pack by post to their registered membership address. The ballot pack will contain a paper ballot that can be returned in the post. The pack will also contain details of how to vote online and two unique security codes that must be entered in order to do so. We recommend online voting where possible.

It is your choice which method of voting you choose. It is an offence to vote more than once.  Any member who attempts to do so will have their membership of the Party withdrawn.

Qualifying members with a non-UK membership address will NOT receive a postal ballot pack. They will receive an email containing a unique secure link allowing them to vote online. This email will be sent on Tuesday 2nd August.
