Matthew was born and brought up in South-West London and lives in Carshalton with his wife and young family. He is a governor of Stanley Park High School in Carshalton and was a vice-chairman of governors at a special school for boys with behavioural difficulties in Wandsworth, where he served as a ward councillor from 2010-2014 and was chairman of the Conservative Group from 2011-2012. He was a director of the Wandle Park Regional Park Development Trust from 2011 to 2014.
He has pledged to be an energetic MP, standing up for local people and taking action - not just petition signatures - whenever required. He believes in lower, fairer taxes, in hard work being rewarded, in greater transparency in politics and above all that our country’s best days lie ahead of it. He currently works as a speechwriter and road safety campaigner for a leading insurance company and previously worked for nine years at the Confederation of British Industry.
