Julian has represented New Forest East since 1997.
A prize-winning writer on Defence, he was a Shadow Defence Minister for more than six years, also serving as Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office and as an Opposition Whip.
Julian's previous roles include being Deputy Director of the Conservative Research Department and sitting on the Defence Select Committee.
He is a member of the Intelligence and Security Committee, which oversees MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.
He has fought numerous campaigns on local issues, including schools, community hospitals, dementia and mental health services, and water fluoridation – which he opposes.
He also played a central role in preventing the development of a huge container port on sensitive land at Dibden Bay, close to the edge of the New Forest.
