Richard Benyon was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Newbury in 2005 and was re-elected in 2010 and 2015.
Richard was born and raised in West Berkshire and, as well as being a local farmer and businessman, has been involved with a number of local organisations, including the Kennet and Pang Valley Countryside Project. He is a Trustee of the Mary Hare Foundation, which aims to raise money for Mary Hare School for the deaf, and as a former soldier was a Founder Trustee of the charity Help for Heroes.
Richard has campaigned on a number of local health matters, most recently championing those with learning difficulties. He has been fighting, successfully, to secure an increase in funding for West Berkshire in respect of the superfast broadband roll-out and is actively looking for ways to ensure the whole constituency benefits. Richard will continue to campaign to extend rail electrification of the Great Western Line beyond Newbury.
