From May 2010 to September 2012 Hugo served as Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office. He was subsequently Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from December 2012 to July 2016. He was sworn into the Privy Council in 2010 and Knighted in 2016. Prior to this he held a number of positions in Opposition including Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Minister for the Arts, PPS to the then Chairman of the Conservative Party, Theresa May and Opposition Whip.
He is Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council and Deputy Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council.
Hugo is married with two children and lives in London and Devon.
