Claire attended her local secondary school before gaining a degree in Geography and two rowing Blues at Brasenose College, Oxford. She then worked for Bank of America before gaining an MBA from Harvard Business School. Her business career included roles at McKinsey and Credit Suisse, before Claire took time out to raise her family when she volunteered and fundraised for a number of organisations in the Salisbury area.
From 2007 she worked for George Osborne as a Policy Advisor and then was elected as MP for the Devizes Constituency in 2010. Since entering Parliament, she has served on the Justice Select Committee, represented Britain at the Council of Europe, worked as a PPS to the Secretary of State for Defence and was appointed by then Prime Minister, David Cameron, to lead the Government’s work on child internet safety. She served as a Government Whip from 2013-2014, and as Rail Minister from 2014-2016.
Claire was appointed Minister of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on 12 June 2017, and was invited to be sworn onto the Privy Council and attend Cabinet on 8 January 2018. Her responsibilities include industrial strategy, climate change & innovation and energy efficiency including fuel poverty.
