Harriett has successfully supported investment in the local NHS delivering a new Malvern Community Hospital, a new birthing centre, a new breast unit and an oncology unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. She continues to press for a fairer funding deal for high-performing local schools and is a strong voice for local business, helping companies to grow, creating new skilled jobs, especially in the defence and cyber security sectors. She is a strong voice for improved infrastructure across the county including better mobile and broadband connectivity, and improved road and rail links. She and her husband Jim live in the heart of the constituency, in the picturesque Teme Valley.
Harriett was elected as the Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire in 2010 and returned with a significantly increased majority in 2015. She has served on the Work and Pensions Select Committee and as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Employment before being appointed a Government Assistant Whip and the Lord Commissioner to HM Treasury. She was appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury in 2015 and she currently holds the post of Minister for Defence Procurement, to which she was appointed in July 2016.
