I grew up watching my parents serve the local community with dedication. My father is a consultant doctor in the NHS, and my mother is a pharmacist. My grandfather was an Anglican vicar. I wanted to make that same positive difference to people as their Member of Parliament and I was first elected to represent this wonderful constituency on 9th June, 2017.
I have been fortunate enough to have a successful business career. I spent ten years in the City advising some of the biggest companies in the world, both British and international – first as a corporate lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, then as a Senior Executive at HSBC.
My parents sacrificed a great deal so that I could attend good schools. I was lucky enough to study at Eton College and Oxford University, where I was Vice President of the Oxford Union and played football for the University. These experiences changed my life, and consequently I am passionate about the need to ensure that everyone has access to a fantastic education and greater opportunities. I was a primary school governor for several years and I have always supported (and volunteered for) charities that focus on helping people return to work.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Ditchley Foundation. As a very keen sportsman, I support Northampton Saints Rugby Union Club and Arsenal FC.
I am married to Hetti, and we have two little boys. We live in St Ippolyts, just south of Hitchin. In my spare time, I listen to the Archers, play cricket, and read lots of history books.
