Tim Yeo

Before entering Parliament Tim was Chief Executive of Scope from 1980 to 1983, having previously held a number of posts in business.

He led the campaign to save the Tadworth Court Children’s Hospital in 1982 and from 1983 to 1990 was Chairman of the Children’s Trust, the charity which ran and greatly expanded the hospital.

He founded the Charities Tax Reform Group in 1983, acting as Chairman until 1990. The Group became the main umbrella organisation representing charities on taxation issues.

He was educated at Charterhouse and won an Open Exhibition to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he obtained an MA in History.

Tim Yeo's Experience

Tim served as a member of the Shadow Cabinet from 1998 to May 2005, and shadowed Health, Education, Trade & Industry, Culture Media & Sport, and Agriculture, and Environment & Transport.

In 2001 as Shadow Minister of Agriculture, Tim played a leading role in exposing the Government’s mishandling of the Foot and Mouth Disease epidemic.

In Government, Tim served as Minister of State for the Countryside and Environment from 1993 to 1994 and held other posts at the Home Office, Foreign Office and Department of Health between 1988 and 1993.

Tim has represented South Suffolk since 1983. As a backbencher he served on the Health, Employment and Treasury Select Committees. From 2005 to 2010 he chaired the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee, and in June 2010 he was elected as Chair of the Energy and Climate Change Committee.
