Richard Tracey was MP for Surbiton for 14 years and an Environment Minister in the Thatcher Government. Richard also served as a senior member of the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee. He is a Justice of the Peace and Freeman of the City of London. He was Chairman of Wandsworth Conservatives from 2003-2008
In 2006, he became Sport England Chair for South London. Richard takes an active interest in rowing and rugby football as President of both Kingston Amateur Regatta and Kingston RFC, and is a former Current Affairs broadcaster with BBC television and radio.
He and his wife Kathy live in central Wandsworth where they have raised four grown up children.
Richard says “I am looking forward to the prospect of working within the Greater London Assembly with Boris Johnson. I believe in very serious control of public spending and City Hall bureaucracy, while more efficient management needs to be exerted over London transport services and overall policing in the capital. I was one of the team of Ministers involved in the abolition of the former GLC monster and I have a feeling that the former Mayor had been trying to rebuild his old empire. It had to be stopped.”
