Born in 1975, Nick is originally from Cwmbran. He went to Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School before attending St John's College at the University of Durham where he gained a Joint Honours degree in English and Philosophy. He later gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics from Cardiff University.
Nick has previously worked as a researcher for the Welsh Conservatives' Assembly leader Nick Bourne AM. Prior to that he worked for former Monmouth AM David Davies and even had a stint as a driving instructor!
Aside from politics, Nick is a keen tennis player and member of Cwmbran Tennis Club. He is also an follower of Welsh Rugby - his grandfather Jack Davies played for Pontypool Rugby Club in the 1950s.
He is involved in charity work and a member of Lions Clubs International as well as being a governor of two schools, King Henry VIII in Abergavenny and Llantilio Pertholey Community School.
Nick Ramsay's Experience
Nick has been involved in a number of political battles.
He fought the Labour stronghold of Torfaen in 2003 Assembly Elections, achieving a 7.5% increase in the share of the vote and pushing the leader of Welsh Liberal Democrats in the Assembly into 3rd place. He returned to fight the seat in the General Election, gaining a 2.5% swing from Labour.
Nick was elected to Monmouthshire County Council in June 2004, representing the ward of Mardy, which had previously been in Labour hands for over 20 years.
He currently sits on two select committees, Lifelong Learning and Leisure and Social Services and Housing as well as the "Bryn Y Cwm" Area Committee.
Most recently Nick was appointed Monmouthshire's "Older People's Champion", a cross-cutting brief with responsibility for the interests of the over 50s across the county.
Nick was elected as Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for Monmouth in May 2007 and was Shadow Minister for Local Government and Public Services until October 2008 when he was appointed Shadow Minister for Finance.
