Andrew Davies was born in Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan in 1968 and educated at Llanfair Primary School and St John's. He became a partner in the family farming business based near Cowbridge. Andrew is a former Welsh delegate on the Council of the National Farmers' Union. He was the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society's Oxford Scholar in 2002.

He joined the Welsh Conservative Party in 1997 and stood as a Parliamentary candidate in Cardiff West in 2001 and in Brecon & Radnorshire in 2005. At the 2007 Assembly elections he was listed second on the Conservative regional list for South Wales Central and was elected. Andrew Davies is married with four children. He is a former Chairman of Creative Communities, an organisation which seeks to develop structural community development.

Andrew's hobbies include swimming, farming and spending time with his family. Andrew's political interests include economic development, education, health and rural affairs.

In February 2009, Andrew was appointed Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services. Andrew previously served as Shadow Minister for Education from June 2008 to February 2009. He sits on the Assembly's Health, Wellbeing and Local Government Committee and the Petitions Committee.

In December 2008, Andrew was recognised in the Welsh Politician of the Year Awards as 'Assembly Member to Watch'.
