Dr Spencer Pitfield

Spencer is the Parliamentary Candidate for the new Parliamentary constituency of Penistone and Stocksbridge. The UK Parliament currently operates on different constituency boundaries.

Spencer, 39, was born in Sheppey, Kent, but attended secondary school in South Africa. A musician and teacher by profession, he holds a Ph.D. in British clarinet and piano music from Sheffield University. He teaches at Birkdale School, Sheffield, where he is Head of Instrumental Studies and has been a local Magistrate for seven years sitting on the Sheffield Bench.

Spencer is married to Gabrielle, and they have three young children; Francesca, 9, Sebastian, 6, and Theodore, a very lively 18 months!

Spencer’s Political Experience

Spencer served as a Borough Councillor from 2001 until 2008. Whilst serving in local Government he fulfilled numerous portfolio holder positions including waste and recycling, transportation, enforcement and the environment. Spencer was also Deputy Leader of the Council.

In 2005 Spencer contested the Sheffield Hallam parliamentary seat against Nick Clegg MP. He was selected as the parliamentary candidate for the newly formed Penistone and Stocksbridge seat in July 2007.

Campaigns in Penistone and Stocksbridge

The Penistone and Stocksbridge campaign team are working hard on your behalf all year round – not just at election time!

Our most recent campaign has focused on trying to save 5 Post Offices from closure in the constituency. A petition of over 500 persons was hand delivered by Spencer and newly elected Stocksbridge Town Councillor Russell Marsh-Smith to No. 10 Downing Street on 18 September 2008.

Other recent campaigns have included fighting for extra funding to improve children’s play areas, gaining better facilities for youth provision, making our streets cleaner, acting with police and social groups to stop anti-social behaviour problems and lobbying to get more money directed towards road repairs and road safety.
