Martin was born in Cleethorpes, educated locally and has always lived in Cleethorpes or Grimsby. In 2004, after six years study as a part-time mature student, he graduated from Lincoln University with an Honours degree in Politics.
He is married to Ann, they have one daughter.
He has worked in the printing industry and the retail trade before taking up the position of Constituency Agent to Edward Leigh MP in 1994.
As well as his service as a local councillor Martin serves the local community through his local church where he served as a churchwarden until April 2007. Outside politics his interests are his family, reading (mainly politics, history, religion and railways), Football & Cricket, travel, railways and music.
Martin Vickers' Experience
Martin achieved a significant swing to the Conservatives in the 2005 General Election and reduced the Labour majority to just 2642. Martin was re-selected to fight the Cleethorpes constituency at an 'Open Primary' held on 8th November 2006.
Martin has 24 years experience as a councillor including six years as the Cabinet member for Environmental Services on North East Lincolnshire Unitary Council.
