Anna’s from Nottinghamshire having spent most of her childhood living in Clumber Park and going to the Hartland Comprehensive School in Worksop. For many years Anna worked in Television as a presenter and reporter on Central News East and Central Weekend. Anna also presented and reported for Heart of the Country, ITV’s “This Morning” and a number of other programmes on Channel 4 and BBC 1.
Anna had originally trained to be a barrister and about twelve years ago, returned to the Bar. Anna now works as a criminal barrister based in Notingham. Like most barristers Anna both prosecutes and defends but largely defends.
Anna is a single mother of two teenage daughters and when she has the time has a passion for gardening and cooking.
Anna Soubry's Experience
Anna first joined the Conservative Party as a student at Birmingham University in the 1970’s. Anna was the first woman Conservative to be elected to the National Union of Students and went onto be the first Conservative Honorary President (Rector) of Stirling University. Anna left the Conservative Party in the early 1980’s and returned to the party in 2002. In 2003 she stood for Nottingham City Council and later that year was selected as the Parliamentary candidate for Gedling where in 2005 she and her team successfully reduced Labour’s majority by over 2,000. Anna was selected by Broxtowe Conservatives in July 2006. In September 2012 Anna was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Health.
