Lumley Karen

Karen became the Member of Parliament for Redditch County in 2010.

Karen is a passionate believer in an NHS that is free at the point of delivery. Karen knows just how much money has gone into the Health Service but knows that we cannot go on the way we are. What we need to do is let them get on with the brilliant job that they do. Let medical professionals decide what is best and stop trying to either reorganize them at every turn or place unnecessary targets on them.

Karen is a campaigner for fairer funding for education. Both her children were educated in the state system at St Augustines in Redditch. She knows that children only get one chance at a good education and will continue to fight for a national funding formula.

Karen has been a member of the Conservative Party for nearly 20 years and first helped in the General Election in 1992 in Rugby. Karen has been a Councillor, both in Redditch and in Wales.

She was a District and County Councillor in Wrexham, where she lived for 17 years, and the youngest Tory group leader in Wrexham. She was also the youngest Deputy Chairman of the Welsh Conservative Party and was appointed by William Hague to speak for the party in Wales on local government in 1997 when there were no elected party representatives.

Karen contested the Welsh Assembly elections in 1999 before moving to Redditch. She moved to Brockhill in 2000 and has contested three general elections; she was a District Councillor in Redditch before standing down to fight the election. She was elected Member of Parliament for Redditch County in May 2010.

In Parliament Karen has many interests including Education, Health, Foreign Affairs and Defence issues. Karen is a member of the Parliamentary Armed forces scheme and is Chair of the All party group on Bosnia.
