David has been the Member of Parliament for Clwyd West since May 2005.
North Wales has been home to David since childhood. Educated at Ruabon Grammar School, David studied law at University College, London before returning to North Wales to set up a legal practice. David is married to Sara, a former nurse, and they live in on the coast of the constituency. They have two sons.
David is a keen supporter of Liverpool Football Club. His other interests include cars and travel.
Before becoming an MP, David was senior partner in his own legal practice, based in Llandudno. Politically, David is interested in the environment, law and order and constitutional affairs.
During the 2005-2010 Parliament David held a seat on the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and was co-chairman of the Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group.
David was elected as a Member of Parliament in May 2005. In November 2006, he was appointed Shadow Minister for Wales, a position which he held until the general election in May 2010.
Shortly after his re-election in the 2010 general election, David was appointed as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales in the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition Government. In September 2012, David was appointed Secretary of State for Wales.
He broadcasts frequently on television and radio and is well known in North Wales and Cheshire as a public speaker.
Within the Conservative Party David is patron of the Chinese Conservative Group. He is an ambassador for Girlguiding UK and also an honorary fellow of Cancer Research UK.
