Douglas was born on 5th February 1945. He was educated at Eton, and Christ Church, Oxford (MA), where he became the President of the Oxford Union.
He married in 1968 to Sarah Boyd-Carpenter, and they have one son and one daughter. In 1968 he was called to the Bar (Lincoln's Inn), and became a QC in 1990.
Douglas Hogg's Experience
Douglas's political career began in 1979 when he became Member of Parliament for Grantham. This changed in 1997 when he became MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham.
During his political career he was PPS to the Rt Hon Leon Brittan MP, Chief secretary to the Treasury (1982-86), and Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Home Office (1986-89). He was Minister of State at the Department of Trade and Industry (Minister for Industry and Enterprise) (1989-90), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1990-95), and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1995-97).
Douglas was a former Member of the Home Affairs Select Committee (1997-98), and a Government Whip from 1983 until 1984.
