Aidan Burley

Biographical details

Aidan was born in 1979 in Auckland, New Zealand, the son of British parents. He lived there for six months before returning to the UK, where he was educated at West House School, Edgbaston and King Edward's School, Birmingham, before studying for a degree at St. John's College, Oxford. His parents were both born and still live in Birmingham, running small businesses in manufacturing and public relations.

Aidan’s experience

After leaving Oxford, Aidan worked as a researcher for Philip Hammond MP before joining an international firm of Management Consultants, where he specialised in projects designed to improve the Criminal Justice System. He was part of a number of performance improvement teams who worked closely with government departments such as the Home Office, Cabinet Office and several Police Forces, to try and help them deliver a better public service.

In 2007 Aidan undertook a career break to work for Nick Herbert MP as part of David Cameron's Police Reform Taskforce, looking at ways to reduce bureaucracy for the police. He used his experience working with the police to identify areas where red tape could be cut.

Aidan is leading the campaign across Staffordshire for the granting of ‘Heritage’ status to Cannock Chase forest, to ensure it is protected for future generations. He is also opposing Biffa's planning application to build a 400,000 tonne waste incinerator on the Kingwood Lakeside site in Cannock.
