Greg was educated at Steyning Grammar School and Lancing College in Sussex before graduating in History, Economic History & Politics from London University in 1987.
Prior to Parliament, Greg worked in corporate finance and investor relations and spent two years in Russia with one of their leading energy companies. He also helped lead the successful management buy-in of Bartlett Scott Edgar, the recruitment advertising business in 1998. He has represented Bexhill and Battle since 2001.
Greg's Experience
Greg served on the House of Commons Environmental Audit select committee between 2001 and 2005. He was appointed to the Opposition Front Bench as a Conservative whip in 2003, and resigned on July 2005 to help run David Cameron's successful leadership campaign.
David Cameron appointed Greg as Shadow Environment Minister in December 2005 and Shadow Climate Change Minister in 2008. He accompanied David to the Arctic in March 2006, to highlight the dangers of global warming and has since been a key player in the "greening" of the Conservative Party. Publications include "Power to the People" and "Root to Branch, Education for a Greener Future".
The Prime Minister appointed Greg as Minister of State for Climate Change in May 2010.
Campaigning in Bexhill and Battle
Greg was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle in his native Sussex in June 2001. He supports many local groups and charities including being Patron of the High Weald AONB and the Bexhill Rowing Club, and Vice Patron of East Sussex Association for the Blind and the St Michael's Hospice Capital Appeal.
Since he was elected as MP in 2001, Greg has campaigned to save local post offices and pubs from closure, save bus routes from diversion, and has been fighting the proposed Landfill sight in Bexhill for many years.
Transport has been a key issue for Greg. In 2006 he successfully campaigned to save the Bexhill to Victoria line rail service. He is currently campaigning against proposals to axe the Hastings to Cannon Street service and continues to do all he can to ensure the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road goes ahead.
