Member of Parliament for Gosport

Caroline Dinenage is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Gosport, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent, and Hill Head. She was elected in May 2010 with a majority of 14,413 votes.

Prior to her election, she ran a successful local business and served as an effective member of Winchester Council. After contesting the Portsmouth South seat in 2005, she was selected in one of only two all-postal ballot Open Primaries to be the Conservative candidate for Gosport.

Caroline in Parliament

Since her election, Caroline has forged a strong reputation on local and national issues. She was selected by the Foreign Secretary's Office as a member of the UK's NATO delegation, and elected as Vice-Chairman of a NATO Science and Technology Sub-Committee. She has since built on this expertise to be elected to the Science and Technology Select Committee.

Caroline is actively involved in many APPGs, including Landmines, Coastal and Marine Issues, and Women in the Penal System. She's at the forefront of a number of leading Parliamentary inquiries as a founding member of the Parliamentary Inquiry into Child Safety Online and the APPG on Body Image. Caroline's utilised her business background to promote growth, as an Officer of the APPG for Local Growth and a key advocate of franchising as a business model in Parliament. She also serves as the Vice-Chairman for the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and is a proponent of skills and apprenticeships.

Caroline has a keen interest in defence issues, and serves as the Vice-Chairman (Navy) of the APPG for the Armed Forces. She has campaigned to secure a medal for the Arctic Convoys veterans and has spoken up on Forces welfare, on issues such as the effect of the airbridge from Afghanistan on R&R times, where she secured a key concession. She experiences day to day life in the Forces and has visited the Falklands as a member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.

Campaigning in Gosport

As a truly local MP, who has lived in South Hampshire her whole life, Caroline stands up for what matters to her constituents. She's committed to generating growth and jobs locally, and has helped to secure an Enterprise Zone at the Daedalus site, been part of two winning Regional Growth Fund bids, and kick-started a campaign to reinvigorate the High Street. Caroline's successfully campaigned on many local issues, such as protecting HMS Sultan and keeping vascular surgeons at the QA, and continues to fight to improve transport, education and employment prospects in the area.

Caroline is dedicated to reaching out to all her constituents with her regular surgeries and street stalls. She's met with hundreds of local businesses and voluntary groups, and has succeeded in visiting nearly all 41 constituency schools.

Caroline lives locally. With two young sons she has little time for hobbies, but in her rare moments of spare time, she's a long suffering supporter of Portsmouth Football Club (Play Up Pompey!) and enjoys playing netball and trips to Goodwood in the summer.
