Guto was born and brought up in North Wales and is a Graduate of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. In May 2010 Guto was elected as the first Member of Parliament for Aberconwy with a majority of 3,398 and a 7.6% swing. Amongst Guto’s political interests are Europe, taxation, welfare reform, devolution, rural development and regeneration policy. Guto is a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and joined the influential Public Accounts Committee in November 2012.
He was elected to the executive of the Conservative 1922 Committee in March 2012. In addition to this work, he is also the founder and Chairman of the All Party Group on Interest Rate Swap mis-selling and the secretary for the APPG on EU-US Trade & Investment. Through his work and his political involvement, Guto has gained a real understanding of the rural economy, the challenges of self-employment and an in depth knowledge of the challenges facing businesses and families in Wales.
