I think one of the reasons why people are so cynical and apathetic about politics and politicians, is elections come along and we all make these promises and then nothing ever changes, nothing even happens.
Now what we've said in this election, as I've been explaining, is different. We've said we want all of you to effectively join the government.
We're inviting you to be part of the government because we think real change comes, not just when governments pass laws, or spend money or issue regulations. Real change comes when everyone recognises their responsibilities. So we want to break open the schools system and allow new business come into schools and provide great state education. We want to help people get back to work, not just by the state doing it but by training companies and private enterprises and social enterprises, helping people to get back to work. We plan for the big society.
But I think it's really important we explain to people what our side of the bargain is. So for the next six days of this campaign, I'm going to be travelling round the country with one of these, which is a contract between the Conservative Party and the voters.
It's a contract that sets out what we will do as our side of the bargain. How we'll make sure we'll have good schools. What we'll do to improve our health service. How we'll make people feel safer on our streets. What our role is in getting the economy moving and making sure there are jobs. Yes we need everyone to be involved. Yes you get real change when you have the big society. But people need to be able to see exactly what the Conservative Party is promising to do.
We haven't had enough accountability in our government these recent years, they say things and say thing and say things but nothing changes. This contract will set out our side of the bargain, what we're going to do. And I urge people to read it, to hold us to it, to make sure we deliver it as we all work together to build the stronger society, the faster growing economy, the cleaner political system that we all need to see in this country.
I'm going to pop down these stairs now and sign a big version of the contract, right here in this fantastic school that does so much to add aspiration and opportunity in our country.
