Sayeeda Warsi: Best wishes for a happy Vaisakhi

Friday, April 13 2012

Sayeeda Warsi

I want to send my very best wishes to everyone celebrating Vaisakhi today.

As hundreds of thousands of British Sikhs mark this festival - coming together with their communities and families to enjoy the food and festivities - I want to join them in celebrating Vaisakhi's themes, such as the importance of praying and of giving, and the recognition that all human beings are equal.

Vaisakhi also gives us an opportunity to reflect on the enormous contribution of Sikhs in Britain. We will never forget the heroism of the hundreds of thousands who fought during the two World Wars. Nor will we ignore the huge contribution British Sikhs continue to make in our society today.

So once again, on behalf of the Conservative Party, I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy Vaisakhi.
