The Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans Andrew Robathan MP has today confirmed that the MoD will be doubling the Council Tax Relief for service personnel on eligible operations overseas from 25% to 50%, commencing on the 1st of July.

This is the latest part of the 'Armed Forces Covenant: Today and Tomorrow', released in May, and will amount to approximately £296 per personnel for an average six month tour.

Andrew Robathan said: "The core principle of the Covenant is that members of the Armed Forces community do not suffer disadvantage as a result of their service. By increasing the level of Council Tax Relief, we are underlining that key principle."

This measure joins a number of other commitments such as the donation of £30m to launch a Community Covenant scheme, introducing a pupil premium for service children and the launch of a veterans information service to provide support on health issues including mental health.
