Conservatives make gains across Wales

Friday, May 6 2011

The Senedd

The Welsh Conservatives now hold fourteen seats in the National Assembly, up two on the 2007 election.

After failing to win in Scotland, Ed Miliband has now failed to deliver a Labour majority in Wales. This means Labour are only back up to where they were in 2003.

He is not producing the sort of results you would expect from a new Leader of the Opposition, facing a Government which is taking tough decisions in the national interest.

Key results:

  • Preseli Pembrokeshire remains a Conservative seat with a 4 per cent increase in the share of the vote
  • Carmarthen West and Pembrokeshire South - Conservative Holds (with a 2.5 per cent swing from Labour to Conservative)
  • Aberconwy - Conservative Gain from Plaid Cymru (8.0 per cent swing from PC to CON)
  • Carmarthen West and Pembrokeshire South remained a Conservative seat with a 2.5 percent swing from Labour.
