Labour's economic legacy - in pictures

Labour's economic legacy

We have published a booklet of images which put Labour's economic legacy in context.

The graphics show how Labour's disregard for taxpayers' money left the UK with the worst deficit of any country in the G20. It means that we are now spending more on debt interest than we spend on schools, the police, or defence.

Other images, available on Flickr, show that Labour have opposed over £50 billion of Coalition government savings to pay off Labour's debt. As well as undermining their own credibility, their refusal to say where they would cut leaves them swimming against the tide of economic opinion.

A graphic showing the organisations who back the government's deficit reduction plan illustrates how internationally isolated Labour has become under Ed Miliband and Ed Balls. A final image shows how the Coalition Government plans will reduce Labour's deficit.

Conservative Party Chairman Sayeeda Warsi said,

"These images are a stark reminder of Labour's legacy.  Ed Balls and Ed Miliband were Gordon Brown's economic advisers when he doubled the national debt and left us with the biggest deficit in our peacetime history."

And she added, "But after burdening our children and grandchildren with all this debt, they have no credible plan to clear up the mess. They've opposed our tough decisions on welfare reform and deficit reduction. They have nothing to offer but unfunded spending commitments and opportunistic attacks. This booklet illustrates the damage Labour did to our economy and how our plans will get Britain back on track."
