Prime Minister David Cameron has sent a special message of thanks to the brave troops who are spending Christmas in Afghanistan.

In a video message to the forces the Prime Minister said:

“I just want to say a huge thank you to every one of you for the incredible job that you are doing in Afghanistan. I know that it is especially tough to be away from home and away from your families at Christmas.

“And I want you to know just how much we are thinking of you and how much we all appreciate the enormous sacrifices that you are making to keep us safe.

“So on behalf of the whole country, have a good Christmas and a safe return next year.”

The words echoed the message that the Prime Minister sent to soldiers serving in Afghanistan during his final press conference of the year with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

At the conference, the Prime Minister said he knew he spoke for the whole country when he wished all those serving and their families a happy and, above all, a safe New Year.
