Setting out our approach to national security

In a speech at Chatham House, David Cameron, with Pauline Neville Jones, Shadow Security Minister and National Security Adviser to the Leader of the Opposition, set out the Conservative Party’s approach to national security with the publication of ‘A Resilient Nation’.

They were joined by Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling and Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox.

The Conservative Party’s national security approach is designed to harness the entire effort of the Government, and includes:

  • Setting up a proper National Security Council to ensure that the Government’s preparations for and response to threats and hazards are co-ordinated.
  • Creating a new Permanent Military Command for Homeland Defence and Security to reinforce on our capacity to deal with emergencies in the UK.
  • Enhanced cyber security, including a Cyber Threat and Assessment Centre (CTAC)
