UK remains last G20 economy in recession

Philip Hammond has described the Prime Minister’s claim to be leading the world out of recession as "increasingly hollow" following the news that the UK remains the last G20 economy in recession.

With the country suffering the deepest and longest recession since the 1930's, Office of National Statistics figures show that the UK economy contracted by 0.2% between July and September.

Philip, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said that Britain urgently needs "a change of direction" to deal with mounting debts, and he added:

"Gordon Brown's claim to be leading the world out of recession rings increasingly hollow as the evidence mounts that his policies have failed".

Rt Hon Philip Hammond
