New evidence of Labour's failure on anti-social behaviour

Chris Grayling has accused Labour of trying to cover up the true scale of anti-social behaviour in Britain after they tried to bury the findings of a Home Office survey of anti-social behaviour specialists.

The Shadow Home Secretary said the Government "has lost its way", with Ministers burying the findings in an obscure corner of the Home Office website in the hope that no one would notice.

This comes after separate figures revealed recently that nearly 60 per cent of the public say anti-social behaviour is a problem in their area.

The survey found that:

• 73 per cent of local areas said people being drunk or rowdy was a significant problem
• 83 per cent said teenagers hanging round was a problem
• 71 per cent said vandalism and graffiti was a problem
• 60 per cent said using or dealing drugs was a problem

Chris, the Shadow Home Secretary, said the attempted cover-up was evidence that Ministers "won't even face up to the challenge of antisocial behaviour", and he added:

"Communities up and down the country are suffering, and yet our Government has wrapped police up in so much red tape that they spend more time filling in forms than policing our streets. We can't go on this way."
