Conservative Party Chairman Eric Pickles hails the success of the second ever all-postal primary to select a General Election candidate.

12000 people selected Caroline Dinenage to be the Conservative Candidate for Gosport.

The Conservative Party is using primaries as an opportunity to engage people from across the board in the political process.

Pickles said that it was a "fantastic result for the people of Gosport and the Conservative Party" and "great news for local democracy".

He added that we are entering "a brave new world in parliamentary selections" that "gives power to the people", and said he would "encourage our opponents to consider this radical change as a way to reinvigorate our political process".

Rt Hon Eric Pickles
