Pupils are held back by bad schools

School Classroom

A new report published by OFSTED shows that thousands of children are at a disadvantage in bad schools.

The Shadow Schools Minister Nick Gibb said that "there are still far too many children being let down by the quality of education on offer", adding:

"The problem of literacy in primary schools is holding back thousands of pupils, especially those from poorer backgrounds, and sows the seeds of truancy and disruptive behaviour later on.

And he outlined how we would change the current system:

"Under a Conservative government the entry requirements would be increased and the quality of training improved. In addition schools will be afforded more freedoms to pay good teachers more."
