George Osborne has attacked Gordon Brown’s economic mismanagement, as it emerged that Britain is now the only major economy still in recession.
Responding to figures that showed the US economy growing again, the Shadow Chancellor said that the Prime Minister’s recession plan had clearly failed.
He pointed out that Brown’s claim that Britain was “best placed” to emerge from recession now “lies in tatters”, with the rest of the world moving on and leaving Britain behind.
George said that is increasingly clear that we need “credit and confidence” to get the British economy moving again, and he added:
“We won’t get either without new economic leadership.”
George is Chancellor of the Exchequer. He has worked in a wide range of departments during his political career.
