Andrew Lansley sets out plans to slash NHS bureaucracy

Monday, October 5 2009

Andrew Lansley

Andrew Lansley has set out plans to slash the level of NHS bureaucracy by a third from £4.5 billion to £3 billion a year by 2013-14.

The Shadow Health Secretary said that by devolving decision-making closer to patients, substantial sums of money can be saved.

Andrew accused Labour of allowing "wasteful spending on bureaucracy" to get out of control and said that a Conservative government would deliver "lean and good-quality management".

He reiterated our determination to shift NHS funds from the back office to doctors and nurses on the frontline, and added:

"Labour have made expensive commitments on the NHS with no price tag; in contrast we are determined to identify how we will save money before we spend it."

Rt Hon Andrew Lansley CBE

Andrew is Secretary of State for Health, and is well respected across healthcare for his extensive knowledge of the NHS and health services.
