Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling has responded to the news that Baroness Scotland is to be fined by the UK Border Agency for employing someone who was here illegally.
"After this, we can’t see how Baroness Scotland can credibly stay in her job", he said. "She was the Minister who steered this law through the House of Lords and who insisted upon its stringent application. She has no excuse for breaking it".
He added that the fact that Gordon Brown is "dithering" over another serious issue affecting his Government is yet another sign of "the vacuum of leadership in Downing Street", and that Gordon Brown "seems to hope that the problem will just go away".
Chris is the Member of Parliament for Epsom and Ewell and Minister of State for Work & Pensions.
