Andrew Lansley has highlighted the need to “maintain continuous improvement” in health services following the release of the King's Fund and IFS report into the future of the NHS.
Andrew, the Shadow Health Secretary, stressed that, unlike Labour, the Conservatives have been up-front about our commitment to a real terms increase in NHS expenditure.
And he said, “The scale of the healthcare demands we face with an ageing population, new technologies, public health challenges and increasing expectations is such that even with a real terms increase, there will be tremendous pressure to maintain continuous improvement in NHS services.”
Andrew stressed that the ambition of a Conservative Government is to improve NHS care so that our outcomes are amongst the best in the world.
And he said, “Alongside getting rid of pointless bureaucracy, our policies of patient choice, payment by results, competition, information and innovation provide the necessary levers to make this happen.”
He added, "Given these challenges, only the Conservatives can be trusted with the NHS."
