Results from Thursday's Local Elections will be coming in throughout the day.

We will be bringing you the news as we receive it on our website - and we'll also be sending out the results via Twitter.

The major results so far:

  • Our candidate, Linda Arkley, won the North Tyneside mayoral election, gaining nearly 4,500 votes more than her opponent, the incumbent mayor
  • We gained control of Lancashire County Council, which has been held by Labour for 28 years
  • We won Derbyshire County Council, controlled by Labour since 1981
  • We gained Staffordshire County Council from Labour, the first time we've controlled it since 1977
  • We won Devon County Council from the Lib Dems, the first time we've held it since 1989
  • We gained Somerset County Council from the Lib Dems
  • We won Nottinghamshire County Council
  • We gained overall control of Warwickshire County Council
  • We won Central Bedfordshire Council (a new unitary authority)
  • We held Lincolnshire, Hertforshire and Dorset Councils
