Gove condemns Gordon Brown's "half-baked" schools scheme

Tuesday, May 5 2009

Michael Gove

Michael Gove has condemned Gordon Brown’s latest speech on education, dismissing the plans announced by the Prime Minister as “half-baked” and “overly bureaucratic”.

The Shadow Children’s Secretary said the speech “reminds us just why Gordon Brown is in such deep trouble”.

And he stressed, “Instead of outlining a radical vision to drive up standards, especially for the poorest, and real control for parents over schools, (Gordon Brown) is suggesting a half-baked and overly-bureaucratic scheme which scarcely measures up to the scale of the challenge this country faces.”

Michael added, “The wisest heads in the Labour Party have already told Mr Brown what he should do – endorse our plans for real reform, extend the academies programme to primary schools and institute a pupil premium for the most disadvantaged.”
