Andrew Lansley has welcomed a poll which shows that 50% of GPs would vote Conservative at the next election.
The poll, run by GP Magazine, found that only 15% of GPs would vote for Labour at the next election, with 54% of GPs rating Labour’s performance on the NHS since 1997 as poor or very poor.
Andrew, the Shadow Health Secretary, stressed the poll was “a real vote of confidence” in our NHS policies:
“GPs know that we understand that they have an essential role, not only in providing care for patients, but also managing their entire treatment from the NHS.”
He attacked Labour for burdening GPs with bureaucracy, imposing polyclinics which will put many family doctors out of business, and changing medical training so that many junior doctors can’t find jobs.
And he promised, “Rather than fighting against GPs, the Conservatives will work together with them to deliver an NHS fit for the 21st century, centred around the needs of patients.”
