David Cameron and Sayeeda Warsi, the Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion, have released a joint message to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
They stress the need to educate each new generation about the Holocaust, and highlight the importance of standing up to prejudice.
Their message is as follows:
"Holocaust Memorial Day is an important and solemn occasion.
It allows us to honour those who survived this terrible persecution, and the memories of those perished.
It is also an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to the principle of universal human rights.
We need constantly to reaffirm such principles. We need continually to be vigilant. And we need to educate ourselves and each new generation about the Holocaust and other terrible genocides which have taken place.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day this year is 'Stand up to Hatred'. We all have a responsibility and it is up to each of us to play our part in confronting prejudice and showing respect to each other.
So today gives us an opportunity to reflect on the past, and to commit to our shared responsibility for a better future."
