Grieve condemns Labour's "feeble" crime maps

Tuesday, January 6 2009

Dominic Grieve

Dominic Grieve has slammed the new crime maps launched by the Home Office, describing them as a “feeble imitation” of Conservative proposals.

The Shadow Home Secretary stressed that, while he welcomed Labour’s decision to adopt our crime mapping policy, the maps themselves were not comprehensive enough.

“The fact is these crime maps represent a feeble imitation of our policy and show that Labour are incapable of making the police accountable to the communities they serve. Some of them don’t even put the crimes on a map.”

Under our proposals, every police force in the country would be required to publish local crime statistics online, on a monthly basis and in map form. Quarterly ‘Beat Meetings’ would also be held in each neighbourhood, allowing local people to hold the police to account.

Dominic stressed, “Only the Conservatives will truly empower local people, giving them much more information about crime on their streets.”
