Grayling welcomes Labour's adoption of Conservative jobless plan

Monday, January 12 2009

Chris Grayling

Chris Grayling has welcomed Labour’s decision to adopt our plans to pay subsidies to employers who take on people who are out of work.

When we unveiled our plans in November, Labour responded negatively to them, with Tony McNulty, the Employment Minister, describing them as “desperate stuff”.

But they have now decided to adopt our policy to help jobseekers return to work.

Chris, the Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, said, ““We have been arguing for the Government to pay subsidies to employers who take on people who are out of work. We therefore welcome today’s announcement.”

And he urged the Government to also adopt our plans for a National Loan Guarantee Scheme to help existing businesses and protect jobs.
