Duncan stresses saving jobs should not be a matter of spin

Thursday, January 8 2009

Alan Duncan

Alan Duncan stressed that Gordon Brown's claim to be creating 100,000 new jobs is "falling apart as an exercise in spin" after Nissan announced plans to shed 1200 jobs.

The Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform expressed his regret at the job losses and warned there was "no complete escape" from Gordon Brown's recession.

He attacked the Prime Minister for having previously claimed that his plan would help companies like Nissan to save jobs:

"That now appears to be little more than cynical spin. While he gets headlines, people are getting laid off."

Alan called on Gordon Brown to urgently adopt our national loan guarantee scheme to ensure businesses get the credit support they desperately need:

"Every day the Government dithers and does not introduce our policy, more jobs are lost."
