Chris Grayling has attacked Labour for a “wasted decade” of policies that have left Britain socially immobile and has proposed a radical new ‘Whole Family’ approach to end benefit dependency.
A new Conservative report, entitled ‘Through the Glass Ceiling’, argues that radical policy changes are necessary to boost social mobility in Britain.
The ‘Whole Family’ approach is aimed at ending benefit dependency and generational worklessness. It is based on work being done in Germany, where entire families, including children struggling at school, are given support to find work and deal with the challenges their household faces.
Launching the report, Chris, the Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, said, “Britain is now a country where it is more and more difficult for young people to do better than their parents did. Worse still, we have generations of the same family trapped in a dependency culture.”
And he attacked Labour for failing to end the problem of social mobility:
“For ten years the Government has been telling us it has the policies to solve the problem. But it hasn’t worked. Britain really now needs a fresh direction.”
